What is your goal for studying with the Best Ulpan in Israel?

Have you heard of the 3 C’s of life? They are Choices, Chances and Changes. Leap into the unknown and follow these 3 C’s. It could be jumping in and learning a new language such as Hebrew or making a choice to expand your vocab and take a higher-level Hebrew class. What is your goal?

Aliyah to Israel is proven to be more successful with some knowledge of Hebrew. Nefesh B’Nefesh has given a fantastic list of resources to help on your Aliyah journey.

Is your reason to learn Hebrew to engage more with the Biblical texts you are reading at your synagogue or church. The root of a word, or in Hebrew “שורש” is used as a base to understand all words and small changes to the word can create many different but related meanings. We see a vast number of our students want to communicate with family, friends and loved ones. It is sad to have communication gaps that even basic Hebrew could bridge. Or is your reason to learn Hebrew to continue your studies inside Israel by attending Israeli universities. We know that being at the best ulpan in Israel can undoubtedly give you the boost to get your Hebrew ready for tertiary education.

Take a look at what Sally experienced at Ulpan Israeli

8 tools to learn Hebrew successfully

Let’s face it; online learning can be pretty dull. Yes, our classes take place online via Zoom, but we know how to shake, rattle and roll on your screen to ensure you’re engaged and learning.

Listening to an authentic Hebrew speaker teach

Listening and understanding Hebrew is a skill on its own. Other accents do change the way the words are pronounced in Hebrew. To ensure that you are practicing and using the words correctly, a Hebrew speaker is a must. We recommend that Ulpan programs in Israel must use authentic Israelis to teach the words correctly.

Repeating in Hebrew

Repeat, repeat, repeat is the best piece of Hebrew learning advice ulpan programs in Israel could give you. Don’t sit silently in Hebrew class! Repeat the words you learn again and again. Can you say them? Is your tongue twisted? Words such as Small – “קתנים” or Kat-ta-nim need to be practiced to sound right.

Practice day-to-day Hebrew

It’s very fancy to know how to quote a line from Ben Gurion’s speech after he declared Israel’s independence. But it would be far more practical to wish someone happy holidays in Hebrew, ask the shop manager where the cheese counter is or read a newspaper easily. Day-to-day Hebrew is essential; you don’t need to learn the whole dictionary from the best ulpan in Israel, only the practical parts. It’s essential to establish this as a goal from day one.

Online Break-out rooms

“We love that Ulpan classes will always have online and offline options”, said Frieda Fisher, Director of Ulpan Israeli. In order to engage, students use break-out rooms online. This means you are separated into groups and no longer with the teacher. This is the perfect opportunity to repeat and practice what you have learned. It’s time to talk and show off your Hebrew vocab with students at your level.

Songs

Singing is the best way to learn new words in Hebrew. You pick your favorite song in Hebrew (of course!) and have the typed words with you. Students love practicing Hebrew this way and you can trick your brain into learning even more.

Learning Jewish Culture

The best ulpan in Israel would need to add information about Jewish culture. Culture gives you an important background in understanding Jewish life and the kind of language used. For example, Israelis speak to the point. There are not as many niceties as in western culture. Ulpan programs must teach this info to create an enriching Israeli cultural experience for their students.

Israeli slang

Following Israeli culture, slang is used as the everyday language in Israel. Biblical Hebrew uses the root of words but to truly understand street Hebrew, you need this in the best ulpan in Israel. How else will you understand the man in the shuk selling apples and oranges? Hebrew slang is not nice to have, it’s essential. Ulpan programs in Israel must add slang into their curriculum.

Presentations and roll playing

Let’s test your knowledge, and what better way to do this than to present a topic of interest to you? It’s the behind-the-scenes work that will reinforce all that you have learned from ulpan programs in Israel. Roll playing online/ offline is fabulous to get your situational language flowing. Take a look at these beginner students’ roll playing after only a few weeks in ulpan. You will crack up laughing at the 2nd roll play of the waiter talking to the customer in the restaurant.

Link here – https://youtu.be/-BOJ9FlkfCY

Learning Hebrew online is here to stay

You no longer need to attend the best ulpan in Israel only when living in Israel. Hebrew learning is online to stay. This is great news. Online learning can fit into your schedule and time zone, which means learning when it is a good time for you. Are you retired and would like to participate in morning classes? Or maybe you are a student or working, so evening classes work better; many more options are available. Let the best ulpan in Israel keep you entertained, practicing and learning so that you can tick the 3 C’s off your to-do list.

What’s your goal? Let’s talk!

We don’t need to tell you how this past year has taken us all by surprise. A worldwide pandemic knocked a lot of us off our socks, and I don’t know anyone that saw that coming. But somehow this new reality has created some rather interesting and exciting changes to our lives. Changes that we never knew we needed. Change has been tough (!) emotionally, physically and financially for a lot of people. And in this new reality, we forge on and build a new life.

Companies are far more employee-friendly than ever before. After all, we are all human, with families and responsibilities outside of work for example going to the dentist is an important check-up to do during working hours. During Covid-19 anyone that was able to do their work from home and online was encouraged to do so. It’s a revelation! Literally, 2 hours are added to your day if you count the hour to and back from work! Many companies are switching permanently to remote working from home, and this is most definitely a perk for working for those companies. Working hours are calculated, rather than how long you have sat in your office chair.

With businesses closing, and people socially distancing, so have all schools and tertiary education had times of closure and students studied online and via correspondence. Ulpan Israeli, with the advice of the Health Ministry in Israel ( Here is the English version) that updates these rules frequently, closed face-to-face learning at the Netanya campus at the beginning of the pandemic. It was a scary time, wondering how this would affect students who were studying Hebrew. Many students study Hebrew with the intention of living in Israel, but with airports closed how could they get here.

We were overwhelmed by the response when we went ONLINE! Studying online became an obvious option for many reasons! We highlighted this here.
We were inundated with new students that were looking for native Israelis to teach them real McCoy Hebrew. Now it was not only students that were looking to make Aliyah or visit Israel, we had students from all over the world from their bedrooms, sitting rooms, churches, synagogues, coffee shops and office desks!

A fantastic group of students started with us, who were monks living in (country?). They partly learn from kabbalistic texts and Hebrew music that they use as part of their prayer rituals. They were diligent students that opted for a custom course to tailor for their specific learning needs. They sang for the Ulpan Teacher at the end of the course with passionate voices “ShamaIsrael” meaning “Hear, O Israel”.

Our students come from Russia, Chile, America, South Africa, England, China to name only a few. A French student named Shirel, joined us in the last program, she could not speak or understand anything in Hebrew. She was very excited to be using Hebrew and making herself understood after a beginner’s program, we put her video up on facebook here
Will life ever be the same as what it was pre2020? No one knows. But ONLINE Learning is here to stay at Ulpan Israeli. We want to give people an authentic Hebrew cultural experience and there are no better people to do that than our inspiring teachers here in Israel.

Teaching just made a comeback as one of the great professions! Molding children’s minds, expanding adults’ horizons, passing down a treasure trove of information from master to student. I believe online learning has done just that, making teachers on-trend. After all when it comes to wanting information where else to find it but the world wide web? You can literally study anything from learning piano to studying Hebrew and you get experienced professional teaching you. Doesn’t everyone have their own Youtube channel lately?

Especially now in 2020 during the devastating Covid-19 Pandemic where teachers can switch their face-to-face jobs for an online version. Our world is more online than ever before. How did I not have the foresight to invest in Zoom?! I’m sure everyone is thinking that. Zoom has taken online learning from old school to cool school.

Having always wanted to study Hebrew and although I can talk conversationally, which I am very proud of after 4 years living in Israel, I knew I needed a better base. Having a very busy household with a bunch of kids and trying to keep up with a work-life balance, I couldn’t see how to fit in a few hours of learning in my local Ulpan. That’s why the online version was a great option.

My ulpan was able to offer me a customized program that I can add to it when I have more time but it was a good option for me, as I couldn’t tie myself into a full academic year to begin. The intensive ulpan study program was a major eye-opener. I learned all those small things that make one sound more fluent. One thing that was very useful, is the teacher pointing out my pronunciation of words in Hebrew and using the popular slang words.

Positives of studying in an online Ulpan:

Recorded material: The classes are all recorded and it is very useful to listen over if you missed something for example what the homework was! There were many times I could not attend; I was able to go over the full lecture when I had a chance.

Flexible hours and days: You can book private or group classes at times that suit your schedule. Options for classes during the day or night.

World view: Meet new people and study with students from all over the world. It’s like having a second family with common goals to you.

Age is only a number: We stereotypically think most people studying Hebrew have just left high school but this is not the case. The older generation often has more time and patience to take on improving their Hebrew skills. They are the ones that have the extra time to complete their homework after class finishes.

Study Hebrew with a native Israeli speaker: The intricacies and meanings of words in social conversational Hebrew language is very different from school-taught Hebrew. Did you know that? Hebrew is not a textbook language.

Levels: You can find a class that suits your level and goals!
Are your goals to talk Hebrew and to learn Hebrew text?
Or even if your Goal is to move to Israel, study and understand this phenomenal ancient language!
